I was so euphoric I though nothing could bring me down. I was floating around in a pink, flowery cloud. Even Nona noticed.

“What's with you?” she asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion.

“Oh, nothing,” I sighed. “Just... I got kissed.”

“By who?” my sister exclaimed.

“My favorite blonde boy,” I said airily, curling a lock of hair around my index finger.

“Be that way,” Nona said with fake annoyance. “I'll find out sooner or later.”

I awoke to the sound of a shutting door.

“Did you have fun, Natalie?” came James's voice.

“Yeah. It was fun,” I responded, stretching and yawning. “More fun than I thought.”

“That's good,” replied Elena sweetly.

“Yup.” I glanced around at my surroundings. I was still in the living room. I must've fallen asleep on the couch.

Elena began to say something else, but paused mid-sentance. “I smell vampire,” she said slowly.

BeginningsI couldn't recognize him. It was as simple as that. He just wasn't John Augustine anymore. He was a body. A broken body. If there was any remnance of my John in that body, I couldn't see it.

He lay in the dry grass in a puddle of blood; if it was his of someone else's, I didn't know. His face was covered in the blood that had run from his nose and mouth. His brown hair stuck together in matted tufts, bloody and sweaty.

His torso was the worst. I could clearly see two jagged holes made by bullets. His uniform, once and perfect navy, was now a dull slate blue, covered in dust and blood.

Don't you hate when something looks really amazing in real life and then you scan it and even after you edit it, it still looks bad? That describes this :/
